Feature and Follow Friday, #3

Feature and Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee of Parajunkee’s View and Alison of Alison Can Read. This week the featured blogger is My Thoughts... Literally!

The goal is to increase blog followers and to make new friends. If you want to take part, answer the question posted and add your post to the linky, follow the hosts and the featured blogs, and hop from blog to blog leaving a comment to say hello, and follow as many or as few blogs as you like.

This Weeks Question:

Tell us about a book that you didn’t like and why we shouldn’t read it (as nicely and respectfully as possible)

I’m going to choose a book I just finished yesterday. I haven’t got my thoughts collected just yet, and I’ll try to get a review written up over the weekend. To say I disliked it would be putting it mildly!

Carrier of the Mark by Leigh Fallon.

In short, if you’ve ever read Twilight, you have already read Carrier of the Mark minus the sparkly vampires, and set the book in Ireland. The characters grated on my last nerve, the world building was non-existent and I almost rage quit after each chapter. It’s a requirement to be nice… and that’s about as nice as I can be. If I continue I will end up ranting!

  1. I haven't read this book... or heard of it actually. Sorry you got stuck reading something that made you so angry. I've read several books that I will actually go and look at the publishers date to see which was written first because they are so alike. I hate that. Thanks for stopping by my blog. 1. That's a really good strategy. I've read a few books that I didn't enjoy so far this year, but this was the first one that really annoyed me. (Probably should have tried to tone down my wording! Oops) Guess you can't like them all... Thanks for the follow Lacie, have a great weekend.

  2. Oh, I get you. I noticed all of that, myself. I rated it higher at the time, but I've come to regret that decision.

Thanks for stopping by and following. I'm a new Bloglovin' follower. Happy Friday!

  3. I'm positive that I would hate this book. Twilight, even without the sparkles, is too much. I can't wait to read a full review from you.

    1. I'd avoid it, especially if Twilight didn't work out well! I actually liked Twilight way back when I read it, but, honestly, I thought this book was insulting to Twilight.

Thanks for stopping by Kristen, (followed back on twitter) =)

  4. It doesn't sound like something I would enjoy. But the cover is lovely.

    1. LOL! Yes, that's the consolation prize. I got a paperback copy, so at least it'll look good on the bookshelves!

  5. Hey Happy Friday! That kind of sucks about the book, however since it's like Twilight without the sparkles that sounds semi interesting to me... Anyways thanks again for stopping by my blog!

Thanks for stopping by and for the follow, Whitney!

(*whispers* But if you want my honest opinion, stick with Twilight, it's better)

    1. Yeah, it all became too much. I ended up getting so annoyed by it that I didn't care about the story. Thanks for stopping by Alison, have a great weekend =)

  8. Oh wow. I can feel your rage from the comments! ;)

Never read this one, but going to avoid now for sure based on that. You had me turned off at Twilight, so I guess that's saying something too! Hope you have a much better read for your next book!

    1. LOL! Is it that obvious?! Hahaha!

I'm reading Glass Houses by Rachel Cain at the min... it's pretty good! From some of the reviews I looked at I was expecting the worst. Fingers crossed it continues that way =)

  9. Oh wow... I have seen a lot of people reading this book they seemed to like it. Not sure if I will ever get around to reading it. We'll see!!

    1. It could be just me, I don't like books that are very very similar to a series I like. It gets under my skin, and I end up noticing every fault! Thanks for stopping by Angela =)

  12. Aw no, I have this on my TBR list, I have heard pretty bad things about it though so when I start reading it if I find I don't like it I'll just put it back down because I know it won't get any better.

  13. Thanks for stopping by my blog Alma! I just followed you back. I feel a little bad that I unconvinced you to read the Dessen books. I suggest you try reading one (because you never know, right?), just not "Along for the Ride".

I haven't read Carrier of the Mark, but vampires in Ireland sounds pretty nice to be honest. And i liked Twilight. *shrugs* Each to their own I guess.

    Have a nice weekend, too!

    1. Twilight is one of my favourite series ;-) In honesty, I found it a bit insulting as it was so similar to Twilight. Try it for sure, and I hope you like it.

Thanks for the follow and for stopping by Moka =)

  14. That book was actually on my to-read list. But I hate when I read a book and it's so similar to another book. Originality is a must for me, I don't like to read the same story over again in disguise. Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  15. I really love twilight (guilty pleasure) but if a book is too similar to it, it's kind of annoying. Especially since it had been copied a couple of times already. It's kind of getting ridiculous!

    1. I totally agree Nadia. One or two things that make you think "hang on... that's familiar", I end up overlooking if I end up liking the rest of the book. But when it's constant similarities, I can't take it! I want to read different stories, not the same thing with different character names again and again! Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend :)
