WoW #8: Torn Away and Sparrow Hill Road

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week I've chosen two books, as both of them are set to be released on the same day, and I couldn't choose between them!

Torn Away

Torn Away by Jennifer Brown

Expected publication: May 6th 2014

Genres: Contemporary; Young Adult; Realistic Fiction;

Add to Goodreads

Synopsis

Born and raised in the Midwest, Jersey Cameron knows all about tornadoes. Or so she thinks. When her town is devastated by a twister, Jersey survives -- but loses her mother, her young sister, and her home. As she struggles to overcome her grief, she's sent to live with her only surviving relatives: first her biological father, then her estranged grandparents.

In an unfamiliar place, Jersey faces a reality she's never considered before -- one in which her mother wasn't perfect, and neither were her grandparents, but they all loved her just the same. Together, they create a new definition of family. And that's something no tornado can touch.

Sparrow Hill Road

Sparrow Hill Road by Seanan McGuire

Expected publication: May 6th 2014

Genres: Urban Fantasy; Ghosts; Paranormal;

Add to Goodreads

Synopsis

Sparrow Hill Road is the first volume in the story of Rose Marshall, who was the first victim of the man called Bobby Cross, although she was far from the last — and unlike most of them, she did not go easy into that good night. Sixty years down the line, she's still kicking ass, taking names, and more than a little bit pissed off about the way that she died.

You want a good little ghost who'll stay where she's put and only haunt the people who deserve it? Go to a sleepover. You want the real story of the American ghostroads? Come and have a word with Rose.

    1. I've never read a book featuring a tornado in this way before. Realistic fiction isn't something I read a lot of, but Torn Away caught my eye. Hopefully it'll be good! Thanks for stopping by Monique :D

    1. I recognised the cover too, but didn't read the blurb until a week or so ago and it got me curious. It seems like lots of tissues could be in order!

  6. Great picks! I haven't heard of either before but I'm adding them both to my TBR!
    I'm especially looking forwards to Sparrow Hill Road. I do love a good ghost story. And I like the cover, it reminds me of book covers from the 90s. lol

    1. LOL! I think that's what drew me to that book as well, the nostalgia of the 90's! I love ghost stories so hopefully it'll be good. Thanks for stopping by Megan =)

  7. I've seen Torn Away around, but I've never read the synopsis. It's sounds good! I don't think I've read a book about a tornado, at least that I can think of! :) Great picks!

  9. Torn Away looks good, but I think it might be too sad for me at the moment. Good pick for the week. Thanks for stopping by my WoW. I'm still in the middle of Love, in English..another book got my attention. You mentioned you were almost finished? Was it to your liking??

    1. Torn Away does seem like a book I'd have to be in the right mind-frame to read, especially with the subject matter.

      I really enjoyed Love, in English; it hit me right in all the feels, and I was an emotional wreck reading it at one stage. It's not pretty, but oh so good! I knew about the cheating going into the book, and it didn't change my reactions to it all. I try to be as open-minded as I can, and I thought it was handled really well. Hope you enjoyed it, let me know what you thought of it :)
